The Strokes’ singer Julian Casablancas has revealed that the band will only record new material “if the vibe is right.”

The frontman told BBC 6 Music that the New York five piece are expected to start working on new music next year

The last record from the Strokes was 2013′s Comedown Machine, Casablancas chatted about the possible follow-up album in 2015.

Casablancas said: “In January we might meet up and work on some ideas. Everyone is psyched. Everything is in a really cool place.”

“We haven’t started on anything, but it was cool and we played some shows and the vibe is finally… I don’t know if we ever had that good a working friendship foundation [in our] work relationship, but now we finally have that. We’ll always have the creative vibe.”

The singer told NME that the vibe with the group was good. “I think you have good work chemistry if you are just honest with each other and you just wanna do something good, and you just wanna put in all your magic, and create something cool with other people’s magic, with friends. I think ‘the vibe’ in the recent past was lost, but I think we learned how to work together better. More professionally. But now I think we’re looking to combine those things.”

The Strokes are set to return to Europe for the first time in a few years. They have confirmed a headline show at the Primavera festival in Barcelona. Julian said: “We’ve hung out even non-musically, and I think we’ve turned a page. I think we have some magic left. But creatively, there’s magic in many different places for me right now.”
