Orchestra Covers Rage Against The Machine

It’s always interesting to hear an original take on a famous song, a group of musicians have covered an iconic tune from Rage Against The Machine.

An orchestra has put their own spin on Rage’s classic track ‘Killing In The Name’, and they want to cover more tunes.

The project is the brainchild of Nick Proch, a composer based in LA. He has set up a Kickstarter campaign, to raise money for a orchestra covers album. Proch wants the orchestra to play other tracks such as, Pearl Jam’s ‘Black’, My Chemical Romance’s ‘Welcome To The Black Parade’ and Muse’s ‘Hysteria’.

The composer is hopeful of making an album, but he does have some rules.

(1) It has to be a recognizable song, from the past 30-40 years. Could be something as recent as this year or as old as the Rolling Stones.

(2) It has to be one that doesn’t have a ton of orchestral arrangements already. We all love “Bohemian Rhapsody” and “Stairway to Heaven,” but those have both been covered orchestrally many times by many great arrangers already.

(3) It can’t be a cover of a U2 song. (There’s no real reason for this, I just don’t like U2. Sorry, Bono.)

The Kickstarter campaign has a target of €16,000, it has had 319 backers, raising a total of €13,000.

The project only has 2 days left, so if you want to hear some great rock songs, reinterpreted by an orchestra, go and donate.
