On this day in rock history: March 20th.

1960: After being discharged by the army, Elvis heads to Nashville to start recording new material.

1964: The Beatles were awarded a plaque for having three songs on the Billboard singles chart simultaneously.

1968: In L.A., Neil Young, Eric Clapton, Richie Furay and Jim Messina were arrested for marijuana possession.

1969: John Lennon and Yoko Ono tied the knot, they spent their honeymoon in bed, protesting for world peace.

1971: Janis Joplin went to number one on the singles chart with the track ‘Me And Bobby McGee’.

1977: London’s Palladium venue was concerned about Lou Reed‘s ‘punk attitude’ and cancelled his concert.

1977: T-Rex played their last ever concert in Portsmouth, Marc Bolan was killed in a car accident in September of the same year.

1991: Eris Clapton‘s son dies after falling from a New York City apartment on the 53rd floor. Clapton writes the song ‘Tears In Heaven’ dedicated to his four-year-old son.

1991: Michael Jackson signed one of the biggest record deals in the world with Sony Records for $1 billion.

2003: Bruce Springsteen plays a concert in Melbourne, the same day as the Iraq was begins, he performs the track ‘War’ by Edwin Starr.
