Morrissey is having difficulty finding a new record label after splitting with Harvest Records but will not resort to crowdfunding via Kickstarter.
Just three weeks after Morrissey released his album World Peace is None of Your Business he split from his label, Harvest Records, and has yet to find a new record label. In an interview with Spanish paper El Pais, Morrissey admits that he has approached a few labels with the prospect of releasing a new record but has been rejected by them all.
“I recently contacted some labels and all have rejected me,” Morrissey commented. “Pop music lives in the era of marketing which just leads to people with very low levels of competition, it is much easier to get rid of them once six months of fame have evaporated.”
Tour mate Amanda Palmer had an alternative idea to raise some funds for the new album suggesting that Morrissey to use Kickstarter. The Smiths former frontman has since dismissed this idea describing it as a “desperate measure” and “insulting to your audience”
Morrissey now receives most of his income through live tours which he says is fortunately “very good and exciting”. However the musician added “The only unpleasant part of this is that, whenever a concert is cancelled the story captures attention, but if the concert takes place it will hardly be mentioned. Many people enjoy writing negative things about me. Which is fine with me. Let them, if it makes them happy.”
Morrissey recently announced an 18-date US tour for June and July with and Amanda Palmer joining him as support acts.
