David Gilmour has revealed that he will be returning to Pompeii after 45 years. In 1971 Pink Floyd played to an empty stadium in Pompeii, Italy.

Back in 1971, Pink Floyd performed at the ancient Roman ampitheatre in Pompeii, Italy – playing to an entirely empty stadium. The resulting footage has since become one of the most famous concert films of all time and their inconic performance is said to have inspired many bands down through the years.

It was recently revealed that in July, David Gilmour will return to Pompeii for the first time in 45 years, when he’ll play two concerts at the same ampitheatre in support of his 2015 solo album, Rattle That Lock.

The two concerts were recently announced by the Pompeii Culture Minister Dario Francheschini, and they will take place on the 7th and 8th of July.

David Gilmour will also be playing at the Royal Albert Hall for Teenage Cancer Trust in April, as well as playing four shows at the same venue in September.
