Billy Joel recently surprised a Billy Joel tribute band by playing a couple of songs with them. At an intimate show in New York, Joel made a surprise appearance.
Billy Joel sang with the cover band as they performed The Beatles' 'With A Little Help From My Friends', The Rolling Stones' 'Honky Tonk Women' and his own song 'You May Be Right', which also featured excerpts from Led Zeppelin's 'Rock And Roll'.
Joel's surprise performance took place at New York's intimate Paramount venue on Friday night (June 24th). He joined the tribute band Big Shot for the performance.
Although the crowd may have been surprised by Billy Joel's appearance, the tribute band were certainly not. Three of the group's lineup are also members of Joel's live band when he performs his one-night-a-month residency at New York City's Madison Square Garden venue.
Despite these monthly gigs at Madison Square Garden, Joel will be playing a number of big gigs later on in the year. On the 18th of August he will play a show in Boston, before playing a huge show at Wembley Stadium on September 10th.
