Need a place to live? Well you could soon be living on the grounds of the Guinness Storehouse, thanks to a new development at the famous site.
Diageo has a 50 acre site in the city, and 12.6 acres of that is to be-developed. Diageo want to develop the site into a new St James’s Quarter.
Buildings next to the Guinness Storehouse and iconic St. James’s Gate will be turned into a mix of housing, offices and retail space in a three way split of space.
With a feasibility study estimating there will be room for 500 homes, including some social housing.
Diageo are now looking for a development partner to work with, saying the project will be developed over a lengthy period after consulting with locals.
Plans submitted to Dublin council by the drinks firm showed that the site identified has the potential for 63,000 sq m of office space, 5,000 sq m of retail space and 22,000 sq m for hotel and leisure use, as well as 500 new homes.
Diageo said that given the size of the project, it would be phased over a “lengthy period”, with detailed plans being put together once a development partner has been appointed. The process to find a partner is expected to take around 18 months, Deloitte said.
They say advances in technology mean they don’t need as much space to keep up their brewing output.
