The date for the opening of the Luas Cross-City has finally been announced and we’re pretty certain a lot of folk will be welcoming the news with open arms.

Construction, which first started on the €370M project in June 2013, will extend the existing Luas Green Line from St. Stephen’s Green to Broombridge with a single track loop around Dublin City Centre.

The Luas has confirmed the extension will be open for public use on Saturday, December 9th, much to the delight of commuters who currently have to trek from St. Stephen’s Green to Abbey Street to avail of a connection to the Luas Red Line.

Instead, the new Cross-City extension will allow passengers to change from green to red line at the newly added GPO, O’Connell Street stop or as usual at Abbey Street.

It was confirmed on Twitter by the group as the 5.6km loop has been tested throughout the city at all 13 added stops over a number of weeks with the news coming right before the Christmas season.

Will you be availing of the new service?
