Alan Shatter - Life is a Funny Business

Former government minister Alan Shatter has confirmed that he intends to run as an independent candidate in the likely impending general election.

In active politics since the 1980’s, Mr. Shatter has held public meetings in the constituency of Dublin-Rathdown, which will increase to a four seater from the previous election.

He was first elected to the Dáil in 1981 serving until 2002 when he lost his seat, before winning it back in the 2007 general election.

Mr. Shatter served as the Minister for Justice under Taoiseach Enda Kenny before surviving a motion of no-confidence over the Maurice McCabe affair involving garda whistleblowers.

However, he subsequently stepped down after a report into the affair by a senior counsel, before vindicating his reputation after taking a judicial review against the report.

Mr Shatter has headed a campaign for the abolition of inheritance tax in a leaflet push in recent days.

I will be asking the electorate in Dublin-Rathdown to support me with their No 1 votes to illustrate the level of support for the abolition of inheritance tax,” he said.
