The little boy in the UK who was at the centre of a tense legal battle about his life support – Alfie Evans – has died.
His parents said the toddler “gained his wings” in the early hours of this morning.
The 23-month-old from Liverpool had a degenerative brain disease – his mum and dad wanted to take him abroad for treatment but were repeatedly denied permission by the courts.

My heart goes out to Alfie Evans' family – impossible truly to imagine their pain.
Thoughts also with the Alder Hey team who have cared for Alfie for so long, and so devotedly. I have no doubt they too feel wretched today. Rest in peace, Alfie.
