Here’s all you need to know about Lisdoonvarna Matchmaking Festival 2018, taking place in Lisdoonvarna, Co. Clare from the 31st of August to the 30th of September.
The Lisdoonvarna Matchmaking Festival 2018, regarded as Europe’s largest singles festival of its’ kind, was established 162 years ago, and continues to attract a great deal of single people hoping to find their match, with thousands attending annually. The festival features an extensive range of activities to provide people with the opportunity to socialise and find romance, including speed-dating, dances and sessions held at different venues around the Lisdoonvarna area. Recognised as a rich tradition in rural Ireland, the festival maintains that the introduction of online dating does not compare to the traditional means of matchmaking, and a festival of this nature affords people the chance to meet their potential life partners.
Willie Daly, resident matchmaker at the festival, has been bringing couples together for more than 50 years and estimates that his work has resulted in about 3,000 marriages. When discussing the current dating scene in Ireland, Daly stated that ‘rural Ireland can be a lonely place’, and it is events like The Lisdoonvarna Matchmaking Festival that give singles the chance to come together through music, dancing and sessions. Daly claims that ‘love is waiting there for everyone, it’s there just waiting to be found. When it is, it’s a lovely feeling.’
The 2018 line up features an eclectic bunch of artists, including Mike Denver, The Blue Ridge Band and Lisa McHugh.
