Amazon MGM Studios have assumed creative control of the James Bond franchise, as part of a joint venture with the current owners.

This was confirmed, with Barbara Broccoli and Michael G Wilson set to remain co owners of 007 intellectual property rights. Broccoli and Wilson are the daughter and step son of film producer Albert 'Cuddy' Broccoli, a key man in developing the Bond franchise, and one of the main reasons why it is the success it is today.

In a statement, head of Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios, Mike Hopkins said that they were "honoured to continue this treasured heritage", adding that they look forward to "ushering in the next phase of the legendary 007 for audiences around the world".

"extraordinary legacy"

Reacting to this deal, Michael G Wilson has said that he now plans to focus on "art and charitable projects". after 60 years of working across the franchise.

Meanwhile, Barbara Broccoli also added: "My life has been dedicated to maintaining and building upon the extraordinary legacy that was handed to Michael and me by our father, producer Cubby Broccoli".

"I have had the honour of working closely with four of the tremendously talented actors who have played 007 and thousands of wonderful artists within the industry. With the conclusion of No Time To Die and Michael retiring from the films, I feel it is time to focus on my other projects".

News of this deal comes amid speculation surrounding the next Bond movie, and who will even take over the role as the suave 007 agent. The last movie from the franchise, No Time To Die, arrived four years ago, and was the last one to star Daniel Craig as the much loved spy.

A number of candidates had been mentioned, including Irish actor Paul Mescal, who got the nod for the role by fellow Irish star Andrew Scott, who claimed that his All of Us Strangers co star would make a great "Bond". More on this from Nova here.
