A biopic on Red Hot Chili Peppers’ lead singer Anthony Kiedis, is reportedly in the works.
It has been reported the the biopic which is to be based on Kiedes’ 2016 memoir ‘Scar Tissue’, is to be produced by the singer, the band’s manager Guy Oseary, and Brian Grazer (Apollo 13 & A Beautiful Mind).
Universal Pictures are also reportedly developing the biopic.
The film is set to cover Kiedes’ unconventional father-and-son relationship, as he grew up in the decadent music scene of Los Angeles, during the 1970s and 80s, having moved from his native Grand Rapids at 12 years old.
Anthony Kiedes went on to co-found Red Hot Chili Peppers, along with late guitarist Hillel Slovak, drummer Jack Irons, and bassist Flea.
Red Hot Chili Peppers boast nine US Top 10 albums, 15 No 1 Modern Rock singles, and six Grammy Awards to their name.
In 2022, the band released two albums, Unlimited Love, and Return of the Dream Canteen, both featuring returning guitarist John Frusciante.
“some pain caused”
Anthony Kiedis has spoken about his book on several occasions in interviews, which also touched on his various addiction battles.
“I did regret the book for a while as there was some pain caused”, Kiedis had previously said. “But then, I started seeing the long-term positive reverberating. People were reading it in hospitals, in prisons and schools and it was having a positive effect”.
He added: “I realised that the whole point of writing that book wasn’t for me, but to show that somebody can go all the way down and come all the way back and have a productive, successful happy interesting life”.
“And so whatever shame, pain or difficulty or discomfort I went through, then it was worth it because I get so many people coming up to me saying their kids had read it and got their act together because of it”.
Last June, Kiedis had revealed that he had chatted with bandmate Flea, about his confidence issues with having the job title of lead singer.
