A group of protestors gathered outside the home of Tánaiste Leo Varadkar yesterday.
This small gathering congregated outside the home shared by the Fine Gael leader and his partner Matt Barrett. They were protesting against Covid restrictions and vaccines, as they held placards.
In one photo posted online, Gardaí can be seen protecting the Tánaiste’s front door. Varadkar is not even in the country at the moment. He is attenting an EU summit in Brussels.
Gardaí said that “persons attending this protest moved to outside a private residence in the Dublin 8 area”.
A Garda spokesperson also said that the protest ended peacefully at 6-30pm.
Protestors label Varadkar a “treasonous snake”
Protestors had already gathered outside the home of Leo Varadkar twice last month.
On the first occasion, Gardaí broke up the protest as protestors proceeded to make unfounded allegations regarding the Tánaiste’s sexuality. In a video posted online, protestors could be heard aiming homophobic slurs at Varadkar.
Someone even labelled him a “treasonous snake”.
In the second protest, people also held placards with messages including “freedom of speech, “freedom of choice”. They also gathered outside his house carrying signs.
Gardaí have also been called to break up a protest outside the home of CMO Dr Tony Holohan in Terenure. A small gathering of 14 people protested against the vaccine.
Gardaí later dispersed this protest after
“Gardai were alerted to a number of protesters outside a residence in Dublin this afternoon Sunday 3, October, 2021 at approximately 1pm”, they said in a statement. “Gardai attended and the protest ended without incident at 2.30pm”.
Dr Holohan has served as the Chief Medical Officer since 2008. He also chaired NPHET since the pandemic began.
He had left his post temporarily in February of this year after his wife Emer was placed in pallative care. She passed away, having been fighting blood cancer since 2012.
