Apartment owners who pay management fees could be in line for a property tax reduction. The main opposition party is set to bring legislation before the Dail this week to cut the tax rate for over 200,000 apartment owners.
Under the proposal, they would receive a reduction of over a third in the value of their management fee or property tax, depending on which is lower up to a maximum of €300 a year. Fianna Fail’s Housing Spokesperson Darragh O ‘Brien outlined why he believes the move is necessary,
‘The Local Property Tax was established to fund services such as maintaining public lighting, roads and paths, grounds keeping and managing public parking. However management fees are now going towards many of these services, which essentially means that some home owners are paying for the same thing on the double.’
