Against all odds, Arctic Monkeys took to the Glastonbury stage, as singer Alex Turner recovered in time from illness.

Concerns had been growing that the band would have to pull the plug on this performance at the Worthy Farm venue, having been forced to cancel their midweek show in Dublin, after Turner was taken ill with an "acute laryngitis".

Confirming this unfortunate news, Arctic Monkeys released this statement at the time.

“We are extremely sorry to announce the cancellation of Arctic Monkeys’ show at Marlay Park in Dublin tomorrow”, they wrote.“Alex is suffering from acute laryngitis, and following medical advice, has been ordered to rest”.

"Alex and the band apologise for the huge disappointment this will inevitably cause all their Irish fan”, they added. “Full refunds will be credited back to the ticket purchaser’s account by Ticketmaster within the next six working days”.

"The Monkeys are back on the far"

Despite growing concerns surrounding the Arctic Monkeys' participation at the venue, Glastonbury co-organiser Emily Eavis had stated that she was confident that the band would take to the stage.

“I think we are going to be all right. They’ve cancelled that, he’s recovering. I’m sure we’re going to be all right”, Eavis said.

And take to the stage they did, with a fully fit Alex Turner firing on all cylinders as frontman, the band kicked off proceedings with a performance of 'Sculptures Of Anything Goes'.

The band also treated the audience to tracks such as '505', 'Arabella', 'Cornerstone', 'There'd Better Be A Mirrorball', 'Why'd You Call Me When You're High' and more.

There was also time for Turner to declare that “The Monkeys are back on the farm!”.

Arctic Monkeys returned to the Glastonbury for the third time. They have also performed at the event in 2007 and 2013.
