Former One Direction star Liam Payne’s cause of death was revealed to have been as a result of multiple traumas and internal and external bleeding caused by a fall from a third-floor hotel balcony in Buenos Aires.
The Argentinian prosecutor’s office say an autopsy showed that the pop star’s head injuries were sufficient to cause death.
Investigations are ongoing in an attempt to reconstruct the 31-year-old’s final hours. Substances were seized from his hotel room including alcohol and drugs.
Police said the 31-year-old fell into the courtyard of the Casa Sur Hotel in the Palermo neighbourhood before medics confirmed his death.
According to police, officers were initially responding to reports “of an aggressive man who may have been under the effects of drugs and alcohol”.
Liam Payne’s One Direction bandmates have not yet commented on his death, but Niall Horan’s brother has written a tribute on his Instagram.
Greg Horan, who is six years older than Niall, said: “To say I’m heartbroken is an understatement.”
He said the singer would be “forever missed“, adding: “Words can’t describe how much I want to grab my brother and mind him now the world shows their memories of you and him and the boys.”
The Buenos Aires prosecution office, confirmed to the PA news agency it is leading the investigation into Payne’s death.
Fans were photographed lighting candles and leaving flowers at an impromptu vigil as they paid tribute to the music star.
Payne’s death comes after it was widely reported that his ex-fiancee, Maya Henry, had begun legal proceedings, allegedly issuing a cease and desist letter for repeated contact.
The US model, who was engaged to Payne from 2020 until he announced their separation in 2021, claimed on TikTok that since their break-up, he would “blow up my phone” from different numbers.
Alberto Crescenti, head of the state emergency medical system, said on local radio that Payne fell 13-14m into the inside patio in the hotel, and died instantly from the fall.
