Barry Keoghan has been spotted filming on the streets of Ringsend with a striking new look as production continues on his latest independent Irish film, Lemonade, which is set in Dublin and draws heavily on the actor’s own early life.
The 33-year-old was seen shooting scenes in the docklands area wearing pyjama bottoms and sporting long, red, curly hair as he transformed into his character Josh. The images, captured by Padraig O’Reilly, show Keoghan in a deliberately rough, stripped-back style, underlining the raw tone of the low-budget production.

Lemonade is being directed by Kim Barley and also stars Lewis Brophy, Connie Doona and Graham Earley. The film is described as a semi-autobiographical project for Keoghan, exploring the impact of drug addiction on families and communities, and is being filmed close to the areas where the actor himself grew up.
In the story, Josh’s life is shaped by “the turmoil caused by family heroin addiction”, a theme that mirrors Keoghan’s own childhood. His mother Debbie died from a heroin overdose when he was just 12, and he had no relationship with his father. When he was five, Barry and his younger brother Eric were placed in foster care, moving through 13 different homes before eventually settling into a small two-bedroom flat with their aunt and grandmother.
Speaking about his mother during a 2024 appearance on The Louis Theroux Podcast, Keoghan described her as his “lovely, gorgeous” mum while reflecting on how addiction took hold of her. He said it “caught her”, before adding: “That kind of haunts me still, you don’t forget those things.”
Now, nearly 30 years later, the Dubliner has become one of Ireland’s biggest Hollywood exports, earning an Oscar nomination and carving out a reputation for intense, transformative performances. Lemonade marks a return to a more intimate style of filmmaking, with Keoghan once again drawing on deeply personal material.
Alongside the indie project, his Hollywood schedule remains packed. He is set to appear opposite Cillian Murphy in the upcoming Peaky Blinders film, Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man, which is due for release on 6 March. A short Netflix teaser released on Christmas Eve showed Keoghan in a white vest with tattoos running up his arms, hinting that he will play a major role in what is expected to be a new era for the franchise.
Before that, he will be seen in Crime 101, a thriller starring Chris Hemsworth, Halle Berry and Mark Ruffalo. In the film, Keoghan plays Ormon, a rival thief to Hemsworth’s Davis, as their paths cross during a high-stakes heist. For that role, he appears with bleached-blonde hair, continuing a run of bold visual transformations.
