Folk punk-activist singer, Billy Bragg is not an advocate of Morrissey’s political views, nor his support of For Britain, the far-right fringe UK political party.

Morrissey who has spouted a lot of crap recently penned an essay which clearly outlined his approval of For Britain and then blatantly wore a FB pin when he performed on The Tonight Show.

According to SPIN, Morrissey spoke out further about his political views on his website interview with his nephew. He dismissed the notion that racism was a problem:

“Everyone ultimately prefers their own race, does this make everyone racist? The people who reduce every conversation down to a matter of race could be said to be the most traditionally ‘racist’ because everything in life is NOT exclusively a question of race, so why make it so?”

According to Spin, this idea would not be the good opinion of everyone, least of all Billy Bragg, the veteran singer-songwriter and leftist activist. Bragg has spoken out in an article published in The Big Issue.

Bragg didn't hold back about how he feels about Morrissey’s recent statements: “I think he’s decided that he wants to betray everything he ever said in the Smiths, and he’s broken the hearts of a lot of people”

Bragg goes on to say that he no longer has any respect for Morrissey, but is very sympathetic towards his fans, whom he holds in great esteem.

“The Smiths expressed a lot of people’s own sense of disconnect with society and helped them to find their own identity, and he’s totally trashed that. I’m heartbroken for them because I’m a big Smiths fan too. And I’m heartbroken for Johnny Marr because he’s genuine, a lovely guy, and he doesn’t deserve to have his legacy dragged through the dirt”.

An upcoming tour planned by Interpol to include Morrissey has been announced recently.

Speaking in a Hot Press interview about Morrissey’s recent statement’s, Interpol frontman Paul Banks had no comment on his politics, except to say “We thought it would be a good show for our band. That’s how I’m looking at it. I don’t get too much into the other stuff.”
