Blink-182's Mark Hoppus has revealed that his cancer diagnosis managed to heal his friendship with bandmate, Tom DeLonge.

The band's lead vocalist was initially diagnosed with stage 4 cancer back in 2021, before declaring he was cancer free in September 2022.

“Very grateful today,” Hoppus wrote at the time. “My scan came back clean and I’m cancer-free".

Mark Hoppus later shared a photo of himself from a year earlier during his cancer treatment. "A year ago. Holy hell", he wrote. More on this from Nova here.

"brought back friendships"

Now, in an interview with The Guardian, Mark Hoppus spoke about his new memoir, Fahrenheit-182, which arrives today. The book explores his cancer treatment, which includes the musician admitting that at one point, he "really thought I was going to die”.

Despite his immense exhaustion from chemotherapy, steroids, and physical agony, which "crushed me or months on end", Mark Hoppus also revealed that this diagnosis “brought back friendships that I hadn’t had in years”, including his friendship with DeLonge.

“It healed my friendship with Tom: from day one, he was like: ‘What do you need? I’m there.’ In that friendship and the love and support of people around me, I thought: you know what? I’ve had a pretty awesome life", Hoppus stated.

Having left the band in 2015, Tom DeLonge returned to Blink-182, after Hoppus had confirmed he was cancer free, and the band embarked on a huge 'One More Time' tour in 2023.

Back in January, Blink-182 had hinted that they could play a run of live shows in the Spring. More on this report from Nova here.
