The Libertines’ singer-guitarist Carl Barat played a New Year’s Eve concert with his new side project The Jackals.
During the gig in London, Barat threw in a few songs from the Libertines.
They played two sets, one at the Amersham Arms in New Cross and after that they travelled to The Macbeth venue in Hoxton to perform.
Barat and the Jackals performed the Libertines’ ‘Death On The Stairs’, ‘I Get Along’ and the hidden track ‘France’ from the group’s second self-titled album.
They also played ‘Bang Bang You’re Dead’ by his previous band Dirty Pretty Things.
Speaking to NME, Barat said: “The Jackals have come so far in what seems like a heartbeat. Tonight we played in the venue where we first met and the gigs were proof it’s all been worthwhile. We can’t wait to get out there and do it again and again.”
“I enjoy playing with The Jackals so much, and our mission is to absolutely have it for those two shows. It’ll put us through our paces, and I wanted us to have that experience together.”
Last month, the Libertines signed a new record deal with Virgin EMI, leaving their London based label Rough Trade Records. The group are planning to release a new album next year. Guitarist Carl Barat says that he and Doherty have made major progress on the new record, revealing that the songwriting duo have penned five new songs together for the band’s third album.
