A very photogenic kitty has gone viral on social media for its uncanny resemblance to late Queen frontman, Freddie Mercury. Meet Mostaccioli – which means “moustaches” in Italian, a female British Shorthair cat from California with almost 11,000 followers.

The fabulous cat appears to sport a moustache, similar to that of the electrifying showman, resulting in an array of cat puns in the comment section. Top picks from the comments include calling the cat “Freddie Purrcury”, and a follow-up hit single – Don’t stop me-owww.

A post from their official website states, “There is a large feral cat problem in SB and nowhere to get help for them. That’s when we decided to step in and try to help these little guys by at least feeding and hydrating them.”

At the time of writing, $10,000 (€8,798.56) in donations has been raised, thanks to the press coverage of her doppelganger cat. Queen legend, Freddie Mercury had too been a big admirer of the feline world. While speaking in a BBC 2 documentary, Jim Hutton – Freddie’s partner who sadly passed in 2010, revealed that the late singer “treated [his] cats like his own children.”

He would constantly fuss over them, and if any of them came to any harm when Freddie was away, heaven help us,” he continued. “During the day, the cats had the run of the house and grounds, and at night, one of us would round them up and bring them inside.”

Meanwhile, Queen drummer Roger Taylor recently claimed that Sacha Baron Cohen would have been “utter sh**” as Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody. Cohen, who has portrayed himself as some very silly characters, had been ready to take on the biggest performance of his career when the 2018 biopic was announced. However, the Borat star later pulled out of the project, ultimately leaving the role to Rami Malek, who won an Oscar for his performance.
