Metallica continue to pay homage to local musicians at each stop on their “Worldwired Tour”. Last night, September 4th, the band had the challenging task of taking on a Prince classic at the Target Center in Minneapolis.
Bass player Robert Trujillo and guitarist Kirk Hammett had the honour of covering “When Doves Cry”, and it’s safe to say the cover has left us a little dumbfounded here at Nova towers. They definitely added some beef to the tune, with Trujillo on vocals, but it came off like a covers band called Meatallica covering Prince’s lesser known hit “When Doves Die!” Check out the version below.
In fairness, respect to Trujillo and Hammett for taking a stab at the Prince hit, but maybe a Minnesota act like The Replacements or Sugar would have been a better choice.
The legendary metal band’s next stop is a Thursday gig in Lincoln, Nebraska. We wonder who’s next for the chop! Metallica’s 2018 North American stint of their “Worldwired Tour” kicked off on Sunday in Madison, Wisconsin, where they covered a song by Garbage. Taking trash metal to a whole new level…
