Snow Patrol have shared their brand new single titled ‘All’.

The single which you can listen to below, is taken from the band’s upcoming album ‘The Forest Is The Path’, which arrives on September 13 via Polydor.

This marks Snow Patrol’s first album in six years, and you can pre order it for yourselves here. Their last album ‘Wildness’, arrived in 2018.

“a dream to work with”

‘The Forest Is The Path’ was produced by Fraser T Smith, written by bandmembers Gary Lightbody, Johnny McDaid, and Nathan Connolly.

It also includes writing credits from Smith, Roy Kerr, Will Reynolds, and Queens Of The Stone Age’s Troy Van Leeuwen.

Speaking about the band’s latest song, ‘All’, Snow Patrol lead singer Gary Lightbody was full of praise for Smith, describing him as a “dream to work with”.

“‘All’ was written by Fraser T Smith and myself in late November of 2022. This was almost exactly a year before we would ask Fraser to produce the album. The first time we recorded the album it didn’t work out and we would then ask Fraser to step into the producer’s chair in December of 2023 and he was a dream to work with”, Lightbody said.

He also added: “The first day of writing with him I walked into the studio and he had already got some music going. It was all very much ‘hi, how are you, what about this?’ and ‘BAM’ we were off. I love when that happens. Not really a fan of the small talk. I like big talk. And when you’re writing a song with someone you have to get to the big talk (or what’s the point), so why wait?”.

Check it out for yourselves below.

“really great rough version”

Elsewhere, Gary Lightbody also spoke about the writing of this song, and how it all came together.

“My memory is that it all came together very quickly. I wrote a melody and some words while Fraser built the track and in a couple of hours we had a really great rough version of the song”, he said.

He also added: “Then Johnny and Nathan put some extraordinary guitars, keys and piano on it, not to mention incredible backing vocals and so many things which lifted the song massively. Another example of the three of us being locked-in together on this record, it felt like something truly special was happening in the studio”.

“reflection, introspection and interrogation”

The album itself has been described as “an album rooted in reflection, introspection and interrogation” and about “the idea of love from the distance of time”.

Lightbody also explained: “I haven’t been in a relationship for a very long time, 10 years or more, so love from a distance to me meant the way a relationship sits in your memory from a distance of, say, 10 years. That’s not something I’d previously thought about as a way to write about love”.

“So it’s like, when you’re in love, you’re standing in the lobby of the Empire State Building. When you’ve broken up with that person, you’re out in the street. You can still see the building, but you’re not in there anymore. And when it’s 10 years later, now you’re standing in Brooklyn looking at the Manhattan skyline”.

Back in June, Gary Lightbody had previously spoken about the band’s upcoming album and tour to our very own Marty Miller. Check that out below.
