Chris Rea is in a stable condition in hospital after he collapsed on stage on December 9th.

The 66-year-old singer-songwriter had been performing at the New Theatre in Oxford when the incident happened.

Witnesses say he fell backwards after being on stage for three quarters of an hour.

The 'Driving Home For Christmas' singer is currently on his The Road Songs For Lovers live tour.

A concert due to be held in Brighton Sunday evening, December 10th has been cancelled.

The Middlesbrough-born musician was previously diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and had his pancreas removed in 2001.

A statement has been released on the singer's Twitter page:

"Thank you to everyone who has been sending Chris their best wishes and who came to see him last night.

Unfortunately, Chris has had to cancel tonight's show at Brighton Centre due to illness."

It went on to say that a decision will be made soon about the last gig of his UK tour - which is due to take place in Bournemouth on Tuesday.
