Coldplay paid tribute to Elton John on the music icon’s final night of his ‘Yellow Brick Road’ Tour at Stockholm, Sweden over the weekend.
The band who were performing in Gothenburg at the same time, honoured John during the show via a video broadcast. This broadcast was played at the pair’s respective shows simultaneously.
Elton John was performing the final show from his farewell tour, at Stockholm’s Tele2 Arena, five years on from his first show from the tour.
“Elton can you hear us from Gothenburg”
At the time, Coldplay fronted by Chris Martin, were performing Elton John’s classic hit, ‘Rocket Man’ at Gothenburg’s Gamla Ullevi stadium, when Martin called John live from the venue.
“Elton, can you hear us, from Gothenburg?”, the Coldplay lead singer called from the live broadcast, to which John replied, “I can see you”.
Paying tribute to Elton John, Chris Martin began, “Elton, we want to say from all of us here, from all the fans and all the artists that you’ve loved and inspired and helped, we just love you so much”.
He continued, “We are so grateful for everything you’ve done for us, everything you’ve done for the AIDS Foundation. Every time you’ve been kind to anybody”.
“For everything you’ve done for LGBTQ. Everything you’ve done for fashion and eyewear. Everything you’ve done for sexiness, and love and dressing gowns”, Martin added.
“Everything you’ve done for music, everything Bernie has done for lyrics, everything your band has done over the thousands of shows you’ve done. We love you so much, happy retirement, and we’re going to miss you so much”.
