Attendees at last night’s Coldplay concert had the honour of witnessing a surprise guest appearance by local legends Aslan, who joined the band on stage in front of a crowd of 80,000 fans.

The bands performed a joint rendition of Aslan’s 1993 song ‘Crazy World’ to a packed out stadium, and fans took to social media to document the “goosebumps” moment.

Its was an emotional tribute to Aslan’s former frontman and Finglas native, the late Christy Dignam. Dignam passed away in June last year after a long battle with cancer, and remains missed by all who were touched by his music. Numerous public figures paid tribute to Dignam following his death, including President of Ireland Michael D. Higgins and U2’s Bono.

According to one attendee on X, Chris Martin said as he brought Aslan out on stage: “Here’s a band who have had to turn a new page”, referring to their continuation with new lead-singer Lee Tomkins.

Coldplay are to finish the Irish leg of their The Spheres World Tour tonight, with a fourth and final show to a sold-out Croke Park stadium.
