Music Of The Spheres, the latest tour from British band Coldplay, has been officially named the highest grossing rock tour of all time.
This ongoing tour has overtaken household names like Rolling Stones, U2, Guns N’Roses and Elton John, whose recent Farewell Tour, ‘Goodbye Yellow Brick Road’ had previously held top spot, grossing $939.1 million.
Other artists who feature on this list include Roger Waters, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and AC/DC, while Coldplay and Rolling Stones also boast two entries on the list.
Billboard On “unprecedented” Coldplay Tour
However, Music Of The Spheres has surpassed that target, with $944.7 million.
It would appear that that figure is set to rise, with another million tickets yet to be counted from this ongoing tour.
Announcing this news, Billboard said this.
“Coldplay has 21 shows – half in Europe and half in Oceania – left on the schedule”, they said. “Based on their track record this year, the remaining dates could add another million tickets to the tour’s total, ultimately approaching an unprecedented count of 10 million”.
‘Moon Music’
News of this tour comes after Coldplay recently shared the tracklist from their new album ‘Moon Music’.
The album arrives on October 4, and will be the 10th studio album from the band.
“Countdown initiated,” the band shared on social media. “With just 7 weeks until the release of our new album Moon Music, we’re thrilled to reveal the tracklist”.
They also previewed another track from the album, ‘We Pray’, which will be released by Coldplay on August 23. You can pre save/pre order the track for yourselves here.
