A new comedy film inspired by the early works of Green Day, is in the works.
This film, titled New Years Rev, is currently in production in Oklahoma, with all three bandmembers including frontman Billie Joe Armstrong, serving as producers.
The film will also be produced by Ryan Kroft and Michael Rapino for Live Nation Productions.
New Years' Rev, is inspired by the band's early days of living and touring in a van, telling the story of three friends travelling across the US, after mistakenly thinking they are opening for a Green Day New Years concert in Los Angeles.
It will also be directed by Lee Kirk.
These three rockers will be played by Mason Thames, Ryan Foust and Kylr Coffman, as they begin a life changing journey. They will star alongside Jenna Fischer, Angela Kinsey of The Office game, as well as Ignacio Diaz-Silberio and Keen Ruffalo, star of actor Mark Ruffalo.
In a statement, Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong previewed what fans can expect from this film.
“Van days rule. You will drive all night on no sleep then play a show for 10 kids in a basement of a friend of a friend’s house 50 miles east of anywhere you’ve ever heard of", he said. "But you’ll do it again the next day, and the one after that. Because you’re doing it with your bandmates who become your family and it’s unlike anything you’ve ever known".
Elsewhere, Ryan Kroft of Live Nation Productions, also added: “With incredible guidance from Green Day, New Years Rev tells the story of young artists chasing a dream — long nights, endless miles, and the electrifying rush of the stage fuelling their journey. Brought to life by an incredible cast, it’s a tribute to the magic of live music".
Last month, Green Day took aim at X owner Elon Musk at their recent show in South Africa. Find out more here.
