Far right groups are said to be gathering information on operators of proposed asylum seeker centres.

They’ve been warned there are threats to them and their families’ lives, with many already hiring private security.

The Sunday Times reports that the system of alerting communities about plans to house refugees locally is being “discreetly limited” due to safety concerns.

Fears are growing that the level of unrest nationwide could see more “hotspots” of violent protest.

For two weeks, Gardaí have been involved in serious public order operations in Coolock, with protestors clashing with officers.

They are against plans to use the former Crown Paints site there to house international protection applicants.

Sinn Fein have called for more Government communication with communities there, who are concerned.

It has also been claimed that far right groups are using the concern and local frustration, as an excuse to push their own agendas and misinformation, while thugs are using it as an excuse to cause trouble.
