This year marks the 20th anniversary of Hole’s 1998 record, Celebrity Skin. To celebrate, Courtney Love joined forces with a group of approximately 1,500 people.
Consequence of Sound reports that Love enlisted that many guitarists, drummers, and singers at Florence’s Artemio Franchi Stadium for a performance of her hit single “Celebrity Skin”. The proceeds from that mass rock event going towards Italian non-profit Only the Brave Foundation and the San Patrignano youth recovery community.
The players involved are part of a charity collective known as Rockin’1000. In 2015, they gave a Foo Fighters’ number the same treatment. Following that performance, Love became enthused with the the whole concept. In the video below, Love talks about the performance,
“The first time I saw the Rockin’1000 video, I thought, I want to do that. The sight and sound of a thousand musicians connecting with their audience in this open, transcultural way was incredible. It reminded me of the early punk scene, with its community centered around diversity and acceptance.”
