The cause and spread of Covid-19 to humankind has baffled the great scientists of the world to date, but one DUP local coucillor in the north reckons he has it sussed and his intimations have caused huge embarrassment for his party.
John Carson, a DUP councillor in Ballymena, Co. Antrim has invited ridicule for suggesting that the presence of the virus is as a result of God's punishment for the legalisation of same-sex marraige and abortion in the six counties.
Councillor Carson today told The Nolan Show on BBC that the coronavirus was God's way of punishing humanity for legalising same-sex marriage and abortion. 'You reap what you sow,' he told the show. When challenged by an editor on the programme he said it was his opinion that 'coronavirus is a punishment from God.'
The DUP have said his opinions do not reflect that of the party.
Almost one million cases of Covid-19 have been reported across the globe, with over 48,000 deaths attributed to the novel virus according to Johns Hopkins University.
