The event is run by the Department of Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, in partnership with the local authorities, regional arts offices, and cultural organisations of each county. The aim of Culture Night is to encourage people to go to more events held in cultural venues in their locality. It also raises the profile of these organisations and facilities.
Dublin City Council Arts Officer Ray Yeates said of the event: “The rich and varied programme includes hundreds of events taking place in iconic and historical buildings and institutions and smaller, more unusual venues.”
There's a fantastic app that you can download free of charge from the Google Play and Apple App Store. The app allows you to plan your own personal 'trail', which you can add events to and plan your route. You can also use it to check out what events are near you, with the 'near me' function.
Upload your own photos from Culture Night to the app and the best photos will receive prizes.
