Cypress Hill have announced a show with the London Symphony Orchestra, making a joke from The Simpsons come alive in the process.
The joke itself concerns an episode of the popular cartoon comedy from 19 May 1996, where Homer Simpson is shocked to discover that classic rock, especially Grand Funk Railroad and Mountain is not popular with “the kids”, including his own children.
In an attempt to boost his social standing, Homer signs up to join the Hullabalooza music festival, a take on Lollapalooza.
The line up includes Sonic Youth, Smashing Pumpkins and Cypress Hill as a carnival freak.
“come on people”
During the episode, the festival’s stage manager comes in with several musicians, asking “Who is playing with the London Symphony Orchestra?”.
When nobody replies, he asks again, “Come on people, somebody ordered the London Symphony Orchestra… possibly while high… Cypress Hill, I’m looking in your direction”.
It later cuts to Cypress Hill’s B-Real, DJ Muggs, and Sen-Dog having a discussion, with Muggs admitting “Er, yeah, we think we did”.
The band also ask the London Symphony Orchestra if they are familiar with their 1993 hit Insane In The Brain from their Black Sunday album.
According to the orchestra’s leader, his fellow musicians also know “mostly know classical”, but suggests that they “could give it a shot”.
This scene finishes with the group and orchestra performing music together, with Marge Simpson approving of this, “Now this I like”.

Cypress Bring The Simpsons’ Joke To Life
Now, it would appear that Cypress Hill are bringing the Simpsons joke to life, confirming that the band will perform with the London Symphony Orchestra at London’s Royal Albert Hall in July.
“We are thrilled to be performing with the London Symphony Orchestra in such a prestigious venue as the Royal Albert Hall,” Cypress Hill also said in a statement.
“It’s a dream come true, a collaboration only The Simpsons could have predicted”, they also added.
“After years of social media teasing it, many fans may have started to believe it would only be a pipe dream,” adds the orchestra’s managing director Kathryn McDowell DBE, “but the LSO is delighted to finally be joining Cypress Hill onstage and in person, and look forward to creating an unforgettable musical moment! Many thanks to the creators of The Simpsons for the idea and to AEG Artisitc and PolyArts for making it all happen”.

It is also not the first time that the Simpsons have seemingly predicted the future, having also appeared to predict Donald Trump’s campaign for the 2024 US Presidential election.
