The redevelopment of Dalymount Park on Dublin's northside has been given permission to proceed to planning and development.
Almost €1 million has been set aside in the Large Scale Sports Infrastructure Fund for the next phase of the project.
Dublin City Council says it will now appoint an architect-led team to begin preliminary work on the design of the redevelopment, while there are plans for a consultation process involving Bohemians Football Club, Shelbourne and residents in the Phibsboro area.
The hope is to design a 6,000 seater stadium, with a library, community space and meeting rooms as part of the plan.
FAI CEO Jonathan Hill expressed delight at the news “Dalymount Park is an iconic Irish football stadium and this project will deliver a world-class stadium to the north side of Ireland’s capital city.”
“I want to again thank Government and Dublin City Council for their continued support of this project and wish all the stakeholders well with the next steps.”
