David Bowie’s project director praises the musician’s new stage show by stating that it will feature new songs that sound just as good as his classic tracks.
The new show which is co-written with Irish playwright Enda Walsh is based on his 1976 film The Man Who Fell To Earth where Bowie played an alcoholic alien called Thomas Newton.
It had been previously confirmed that the show titled Lazarus was to feature news songs by Bowie but director Ivo Van Hove has stated that the new songs “sound like classics”. He continued on saying “Some of the songs sound as if you heard them forever – like classics. There are romantic songs – because his songs are deeply romantic – and there are songs about violence and the ugly world surrounding us. That’s what these new songs are about.”
It has also been confirmed that Bowie will not be on stage during the show but the musician does plan to give his songs “a new skin” according to Van Hove.
Lazarus is set to premier at the New York Theatre Workshop in December.
