David Gilmour has announced the release of his new album, Luck and Strange.
Legendary Pink Floyd guitarist, Gilmour announced this news, confirming that this album will arrive on 6 September, with the lead single, 'The Piper's Call' dropping today.
Luck and Strange was recorded over five months in Brighton and London, and also features eight new tracks, including a title track with the late Richard Wright which was recorded during a jam at Gilmour's house in 2007, as well as a reworking of the Montgolfier Brothers' 'Between Two Points'.
The lyrics for this album were composed by Polly Samson, who has collaborated and co-written music with Gilmour for the past three decades.
It's been such a joy to make my new album, Luck and Strange, and I look forward to you hearing it. The first single, The Piper's Call, is out now.https://t.co/hMyKTYv29b pic.twitter.com/XKMmDnMPb8

This album was also produced by David and Charlie Andrew, with the latter renowned for his work with ALT-J and Marika Hackman.
“We invited Charlie to the house, so he came and listened to some demos, and said things like, “Well, why does there have to be a guitar solo there?” and 'Do they all fade out? Can’t some of them just end?", Gilmour said.
He also added, "He has a wonderful lack of knowledge or respect for this past of mine. He’s very direct and not in any way overawed, and I love that. That is just so good for me because the last thing you want is people just deferring to you".
“It’s written from the point of view of being older; mortality is the constant”, Gilmour elaborated, “We spent a load of time during and after lockdown talking about and thinking about those kind of things".
The cover image for Luck and Strange, was also photographed and designed by Anton Corbijn, and inspired by a lyric scribed by David's son Charlie Gilmour for the album's final track, 'Scattered'.
Last year, plans to release a story on the life of David Gilmour were also confirmed. More on that here.
