Dee Woods spent most of her teenage years poised over the record button of her tape recorder compiling her own ‘albums’ off the radio (“I hate it when the DJ’s talk over the songs!”) and wondering what she’d do with her life. The connection didn’t register until her final year in Journalism College when she got a spot hosting the drivetime show on DIT FM: “I just fell in love with radio – up until then the aspiration was to write for a broadsheet paper – but radio was so much fun…and the money, practically non-existent. My parents were so happy!”
‘I got my foot in the door at East Coast FM where I started as a naive, clueless work experience student in the newsroom and progressed to full-time news for two years. From there I went to 98FM’s newsroom on a full-time basis and snuck into programming, covering for the Breakfast Show numerous times and eventually getting to co-host my own talk and live music show on a Friday night.
Then an early mid-life crisis sent me travelling around Australia for most of 2009 until reality and scary economy stories made me return home where I picked up presenting work in Jack FM in Oxford and FM104 in Dublin for the guts of a year.
Then a bright, shining star beckoned me to Nova where I’m loving being part of a station that plays REALLY great music, full-length tracks with no waffle and a lot of great craic.
