Sea swimmers have been advised to avoid swimming in the water at Blackrock over the coming days due to poor water quality.

On Monday, the Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown county council issued a “Do Not Swim” advisory for Blackrock Seafront following a period of heavy rainfall.

The advisory was put in place due to water samples taken on July 10th returning with elevated results.

The water samples test for the level of e-coli and intestinal enterococci in the area to make sure it is safe to swim/possibly ingest the water.

The notice should be in place until Wednesday 17th of July.
