A documentary covering the life and career of Rolling Stones’ bassist Darryl Jones is to be released. You can see the trailer below.
Darryl Jones: In The Blood is set to feature interviews from Jones’ bandmates including the late drummer Charlie Watts, in one of his last ever interviews filmed.
“In a band you have to get on with everyone, really,” Watts says in the film. “And Darryl is one of those people who – he’s very easy to work with and very pleasant to be around.”
The documentary also features interviews from other bandmates Mick Jagger, Keith Richards and Ronnie Wood.
“He’s one of the best bass players in the world,” Keith Richards can be heard saying. “He played with Miles Davis for five years, and that’s no mean resume, you know?”.
Along dealing with Jones’ life and career, it will also explore key issues such as politics, race and growing up in the south side of Chicago.

He Was “able to do it”- Director On Darryl Jones Becoming Rolling Stones’ Bassist
Darryl Jones joined the Rolling Stones as their bassist in 1993, following Bill Wyman’s retirement.
By the time he turned 21 years old, Darryl Jones had already performed with artists such as Miles Davis. He also subsequently played with Peter Gabriel, Madonna, Sting, and Herbie Hancock, by the time the Rolling Stones came calling.
“Hopefully not to sound too arrogant, but I’ve never really felt like a rookie with these guys”, Jones said.
“When I played with them for the first time, I thought to myself, ‘that really felt good to me, and if it felt as good to them as it felt to me, I will hear from them again,’ and I did”.
Speaking about the film at a Q&A in Santa Monica, director Eric Hamburg also added, “It’s not an easy thing to replace someone who is a founding member of a band like the Stones. And yet Darryl was able to do it. I don’t know if they could have gone on for the last 30 years if they hadn’t had Darryl Jones playing with them”.
“I hope the film will inspire young people to pick up an instrument and play and write music”, Hamburg added.
“Darryl does not fit the clichés of rock stars. He’s not arrogant. He’s not on a big ego trip. He’s very humble. This is a movie about a very inspiring person”.
