…Or run, in my trainers!
Noel Gallagher has admitted that he became obsessed with trainers after kicking his drug habit in 1998.”When I gave up drugs I had to obsess about something, and I’m not into cars, not into jewellery and all that kind of thing, and I had loads of guitars, so I set off on a quest to collect Adidas trainers,” he revealed in an interview with The Independent.
At one point, Gallagher owned over 100 pairs of runners, but he’s since scaled down his collection. “I kept the best ones back, I’ve probably got about 20 or 30 real vintage pairs, and I put the rest back out there – I gave them to charity shops,” he revealed. “Funnily enough when I go to Camden market I still see some of my pairs there and I’ve been very tempted to buy them back.”
Gallagher also insisted that he prefers to pay for his trainers himself rather than taking advantage of celebrity freebies. “I like buying them. It’s like getting shoes, or getting owt for free, like downloading, it’s wrong,” he said.
Gallagher was recently awarded the Outstanding Song Collection prize at this year’s Ivor Novello Awards. He dedicated the award to his wife, who, he said, once told him she’d never seen him write any songs. “This is proof that I do,” he quipped.
