Get out your winter woolies, Dubs, because Jack Frost's on his way to the capital. We awoke to blue skies in Dublin this morning. Something of a relief after yesterday's wet greyness. Enjoy it while you can, because things are set to get chilly around here. Later today, showers will move in across the country. These will affect Dublin later this evening. With a sudden drop in temperature down to -1 degrees tonight, these showers will turn to hail and thunder is expected.
The cold snap, with sub-zero temperatures, is set to last until the weekend, at least. Met Éireann says, "Friday will continue dry with bright or sunny spells. Highest temperatures of 8 to 11 degrees with light easterly breezes. Friday night will be another cold night with frost in many areas, especially over the northern half of the country. Lowest temperatures of -1 to +4 degrees."
At present, it looks like things will get slightly milder at the weekend with rain moving in across the country. Met Éireann says, "Saturday will be largely dry. There'll be some sunny spells over the northern half of the country. However, it will be cloudier further south. Outbreaks of rain will develop in the south during the day and will move northwards through the evening and night. Highest temperatures of 7 to 12 degrees, coldest in the north and mildest in the south with light easterly breezes. Sunday will be mostly cloudy with outbreaks of rain in many areas. Highest temperatures of 8 to 12 degrees with light easterly breezes. Current indications suggest that there'll be further rain or showers on Monday."
