Dublin's four local authorities are to come together to lobby for a tourist tax in the capital.
A levy on hotel stays is already in place in a number of countries worldwide.
Dublin city council estimated in 2023 that a 1% hotel tax could raise as much as 12 million euro for the local authority.
But legislation is needed to introduce a levy, prompting Dublin's four councils to come together.
The Irish Times reports a county-wide local authority team is to be developed and is expected to be in place by September.
It says it will lay the groundwork for new laws, promote public awareness and lobby for support from politicians.
However opponents have argued the tax would add more costs to what is already an expensive city
