Duran Duran's John Taylor believes that music groups are going extinct.

Taylor stated this during a panel at the Sanremo Music Festival in Italy.

“[The] day of the group is almost gone", Taylor said. “Were there any groups at the Grammys this year?”.

He added: “We grew up in the Sixties and Seventies and we saw that dynamic play out onstage and on record, where you have equal partners bringing something special to everything that they do, and we haven’t found a way of improving on that".

“There’s something very special about our chemistry with each other".

'Fighting As Hard As He Can'

At this festival., Taylor's Duran Duran bandmate Simon Le Bon also attributed the band's longevity to their love of music, not money.

"There is something between us that keeps us together. First of all, we love the music we make together. Nobody else makes music like we do. We've all tried to do things on our own, and it just doesn't seem as exciting as when the four of us get together and work," he said.

"And the other thing is, we split all the proceeds equally. No one takes all the publishing. We all share the finances equally".

The band also offered a new update regarding the health of guitarist Andy Taylor.

Taylor has been battling stage four metastatic prostate cancer since 2018. He has played with Duran Duran on and off between 1980 and 2001.

"As you probably know, he's got prostate cancer", Le Bon said. "I'm sure he would love to be here". More on this from Nova here.
