It was recently revealed that The Eagles will receive a Kennedy Centre Honour this year. They will be joined by Mavis Staples and James Taylor as honourees for 2016.

The Eagles will be honoured at a gala event on December 4th in recognition of their contribution to American culture through the arts. It will take place at the John F Kennedy Centre For Performing Arts in Washington DC.

Actor Al Pacino and pianist Martha Argerich have also been named as recipients for this years Kennedy Centre Honours alongside The Eagles.

The band were due to be part of last year's event, but changed their plans as a result of Glenn Frey’s poor health. Frey would pass away only months after the event took place last year.

The president of the Kennedy Centre spoke about this year's recipients saying "You could say all of them are overdue, or all of them are exactly at the right moment," adding that “We have a great opportunity to recognise people who are still active, and have accomplished so much.”

The Eagles last performed together at the Grammys as they paid tribute to Glenn Frey. The band performed Frey's classic song 'Take It Easy' with the help of Jackson Browne on the night.
