Day three of general election counting has commenced, as the national picture becomes clearer.
Micheal Martin looks set to become Taoiseach once again.
His Fianna Fail party are looking like the largest to be returned to Leinster House.
At the time of posting, they were on 43 seats, with Fine Gael and Sinn Fein both on 36.
However, a big blow for Fianna Fail, saw the now former Health Minister Stephen Donnelly lose his seat in Wicklow in the early hours of this morning.
Fine Gael’s Edward Timmins took the fourth and final spot in that constituency.
Mr Donnelly was in the eye of the storm when it came to the Covid Pandemic, and also around the National Children’s Hospital debacle.
Meanwhile, a lot of attention today centres on the wipe-out of the Green Party. The now former coalition partners were nearly left without a single TD.
They will have a single one, with the re-election of leader Roderic O’Gorman.
He made it by the skin of his teeth, and said the party re-build starts now.
Attention is turning to the possible make up of a government in the wake of the election.
Finance Minister and Fianna Fail’s Director of Elections Jack Chambers, says his party will discuss the next steps in the coming days.
