Electric Picnic have said that this year’s 20th anniversary event is “100%” going ahead.
Speculation had been mounting as to why acts for the event were not announced. However, organisers have insisted that this year’s line up will be confirmed in “a few weeks”.
The dates and details of Electric Picnic acts had been announced between 2 and 29 March in previous years.
The festival which takes place on the earlier dates of 16 and 18 August, has previously hosted headline acts including Niall Horan, Billie Eilish and The Killers.
“plans are well advanced”
Earlier this week, The Electric Picnic Residents Committee released a statement saying that they met with representatives of Festival Republic three times so far to discuss this year’s festival.
“Plans are well advanced for the festival and we are waiting on their final plan before communicating it to the community, we will keep you updated”, they said. “The committee are busy working behind the scenes organising for this year’s festival”.
The statement added, “Letters will be distributed to eligible residents in the coming weeks regarding ticket signing for your area”.
Elsewhere, they also revealed that next year’s festival would return to the traditional September date.
“They said that we wouldn’t have had a meeting with them if it wasn’t going ahead,” a spokesperson said to local website Laois Live.
“We have met with representatives of Festival Republic, plans are well advanced for the festival and we are waiting on their final plan before communicating it to the community, we will keep you updated”.
Melvin Benn, Head of Festival Republic had previously said that he was awaiting confirmation from a major act, before an announcement regarding line up could be made.
Tickets for this year’s event went up for sale last September, selling out very quickly.
“Loyalty tickets and general admission tickets for Electric Picnic 2024 went on sale on Ticketmaster this morning at 9am,” they said. “Tickets for next year’s event were snapped up in under an hour by Electric Picnic fans. All general admission, family camping and campervan and loyalty tickets are now sold out”.
