Elton John is healing from a severe eye infection that has left him partially blind in one eye. The British singer shared the update in a post to his 4.9M Instagram followers yesterday evening.
He went on to thank his family and "excellent team of doctors and nurses" who have taken "such good care" of him over the last number of weeks, adding that it would take time before sight returns to the affected eye.
The post was met with warm well wishes from the likes of pop star Chappell Roan and fashion designer Donatella Versace, and in a hopeful conclusion to the announcement itself, Elton reassured us: "I am feeling positive about the progress I have made in my healing and recovery thus far."
It hasn't been an easy few years health-wise for the 77 year old singer. In 2017, before the end of his tour, John spent two nights in hospital in intensive care for contracting an infection during his return flight home from Santiago, Chile, and was forced to cancel all his shows scheduled for April and May of that year. Since then, despite falls in both 2021 and 2024 resulting in hip and knee injuries respectively, he has continued to perform and engage in his philanthropic efforts, and remains outspoken on certain topical issues. His life and career were dramatised in the 2019 biopic Rocketman, in which he served as executive producer.
The Singer is widely known for his first hit single 'Your Song' among many beloved others. Aside from his musicianship, Elton John has been a firm advocate for LGBTQIA+ rights, and has raised over £300 million through the Elton John AIDS Foundation, established in 1992.
