Elton John has praised Kneecap for their "energy" and "vitality".

The rap trio who comprise of Mo Chara aka, Liam Óg Ó hAnnaidh, Móglaí Bap aka, Naoise Ó Cairealláin and DJ Próvai aka JJ Ó Dochartaigh,, are known for mixing Irish and English in their use of politically charged and satirical lyrics.

Their self titled movie missed out on an Oscars nomination, despite being nominated for six BAFTA awards.

"knocked out"

In a new interview, Elton John praised the band, saying that he was "knocked out" by the band's energy.

"I saw a video of them, and I just was so knocked out, by the energy they had and the vitality they had", the music legend said. "They’re just extraordinary and they, what they talk about is political, and there’s not many bands that do that".

"So, yeah, I love them. I love the energy. I love everything about them".

Kneecap have also been criticised and censored over their music, having locked horns with Tory leader Kemi Badenoch, which culminated in the band launching a discrimination case. This happened after they were blocked by the former Conservative government from receiving a grant aimed at supporting UK artists, despite a successful application.

At the time, now Tory leader Kemi Badenoch was head of the Department of Business and Trade, and said that they did not want taxpayers' money going towards people who "oppose the United Kingdom itself".

Ultimately, the courts found in favour of Kneecap, agreeing with their claim that this was discriminatory behaviour, with the band receiving the full amount of their grant, £14,250 (€17,200). This money was donated by Kneecap to youth organisations in Belfast, splitting it between a nationalist and unionist area.

The band's film, also took home a BAFTA award for outstanding debut by a British writer, director and producer.

As for Elton John, it was confirmed that the music icon would perform at the closing ceremony for this year's Singapore Grand Prix, despite retiring from touring. More on this from Nova here.
