A European arrest warrant has been issued for Gerry ‘the Monk’ Hutch in connection with the attack on the Regency Hotel in 2016.
He is wanted for questioning about the murder of David Byrne at the hotel five years ago.
In February 2016 a group of men – dressed as armed gardai- opened fire at a weigh-in at the Regency Hotel. David Byrne – a member of the Kinahan cartel – was shot dead and two other men were injured.
The Irish Independent reports that Gardaí believe that the Hutch gang carried out the retaliation for the murder of Gary Hutch in Spain in 2015.
Gary Hutch is the nephew of Gerry Hutch. No one has ever been convicted for the Regency attack. Patrick Hutch – another nephew and Gary’s brother went on trial but it collapsed following the tragic death of the lead detective in the case.
